2020 Women in Sport Breakfast
Gymnastics Victoria invites the sports community to the 2020 Women in Sport Breakfast taking place online via Zoom on Friday 9th October.
The event Major Sponsor is Victoria University and the 2020 event will look at the challenges that the sports industry has faced during COVID-19 and celebrate some of the wins for women's sport during the year.
The sporting industry has been heavily affected by COVID-19, join us for a discussion on how sport has reacted along with celebrating the achievements of women’s sport.
Victoria University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Professor Corinne Reid, will look at the role sport plays to strengthen communities and how the sporting mindset adapts to cope with challenges like COVID-19. Corinne will draw on her professional experience as a former team psychologist for England Rugby and Australia’s Hockeyroos and Kookaburras.
Sports journalist Megan Hustwaite will be the event’s master of ceremonies with the breakfast also focusing on the positives of the 2020 sporting year for women in sport including the success of the Australian’s Women’s Cricket Team in the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup along with the successful bid for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand. We look forward to having Jane Fernandez, GM of the FIFA World Cup Bid, Australian cricketer Tayla Vlaeminck and Australian netballer/AFLW player Ash Brazill as part of a panel discussion and Q&A.
To keep the tradition of the breakfast event alive, the morning will also begin with an optional breakfast making tutorial with chef Courtney Roulston. Courtney first rose to fame on Masterchef Australia after finishing as a finalist in the show's second series in 2010. Since 2011, Courtney has been working as the Head Chef for the Sydney Swans AFL Team cooking for the players and support staff.
There will also be other elements of connectedness incorporated into the event.
The 2020 Women in Sport Breakfast will begin at 8.30am with the optional half an hour breakfast tutorial and formalities will run from 9.00am until approximately 10.30am.
