Building Leaders in Singapore

Last month, Gymnastics Australia visited a group of Singapore Gymnastics administrators, coaches and judges to conduct the ‘Building Leadership Capacity in Women’ workshop, supported by the Australian Government through the Australia-ASEAN Council (AAC) of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Victoria University.

Australia's Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore, Ms Kate Duff opened the conference, with Mr Choy Kah Kin, President of Singapore Gymnastics also attending. The participants made notes in their workbooks and worked through developing their leadership style, how to improve their self-confidence and familiarised themselves with governance by participating in a mock board meeting.

Now in its second year of a three year project, it was exciting to see a Key Performance Indicator of this project close to being met, which is to train facilitators from South East Asia Gymnastics to conduct leadership and governance workshops in the future. This year, three participants who attended the workshop last year, and also completed the Presenter Course, facilitated various components over the weekend. Nabilah Jufrie, Teresa Quek and Miki Nomura did a wonderful job, full of enthusiasm, knowledge and respect for their participants.

Next weekend, as part of the ‘Building Leadership Capacity in Women’, two technical experts from Australia will be heading over to Singapore; Michelle McMurdo, who will deliver a series of Women's Artistic Gymnastics Workshops, and Anya Tabolkina, who will deliver the Australian Rhythmic Gymnastics Intermediate Coaches Course. We look forward to hearing how the weekend goes and receiving the great feedback from Singapore Coaches!
