Teens and Sport – What the Research Shows
Adolescent is a significant period of change, with young people aged 12-17 years experiencing major physical, social and emotional changes, including puberty and the transition from primary to secondary education.
92% of young people in Australia do not currently meet the Australian Physical Activity guidelines of 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Barriers to participation include, but are not limited to:
• Lack of interest, confidence, fitness or skill
• Time pressures
• Sport becoming too competitive
• Failure to return following injury
