Mallacoota Club Visit

On the first weekend in February, Gymnastics Victoria travelled down to Mallacoota to support the Mallacoota Gymnastics Club after the challenges of 2020 with COVID-19 and the devastation of the bushfires.

In the fires the gymnastics hall was used as the community drop in centre and as a result some of their equipment was damaged.

Due to the remote nature of the community they have found it hard to get new equipment as a result of the cost of freight.

The MAG High Performance Program generously donated four spring boards and two large soft yellow blocks to the club. As Gymnastics Victoria staff arrived at the club, the excitement over the equipment was palpable with all coaches trying out the new equipment and immediately inserting it into their circuits.

Gymnastics Victoria also had some polo shirts and GV merchandise donated by Stuart at SEM which was put to use straight away as the coaches' new uniform.

There were five coaches accredited through the coaching courses on the Sunday and three coaches updating for reaccreditation and various workshops to help with future lesson planning, including observing their classes to help with management.

Two of those coaches have a  gymnastics background while the rest were there to help support the community and improve the fundamental movement skills in the local children aged 9 and under.

Mallacoota Gymnastics Club services roughly two thirds of the under 9 demographic in their community.
