Two DSR Award Finalists

We are proud to announce that both Jenny and Tamika were both winners in their respective award categories! Congratulations to both of the award recipients.
Gymnastics Victoria are delighted to have two finalists for the 2019 Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Awards.
Tamika Simpson is a finalist for the Lifetime Achievement Award and Jenny Forssman is a finalist for the Official of the Year Award.
Tamika Simpson participated in Gymnastics for 28 years and represented Victoria at five consecutive Special Olympics National Games where she has been a crowd favourite with her enthusiastic floor routines and good sportsmanship. After retiring in 2018 Tamika has continued to remain involved in Gymnastics as an assistant coach at her former club Aerosport Allstars and recently assisted Gymnastics Victoria at the April Victorian Championships.
Jenny Forssman has been an integral part of the Victorian gymnastics judging community for the past 12 years. She has been instrumental in supporting the growth of the Special Olympics gymnastics program by championing judge education and mentoring other judges. She strongly encourages clubs to adopt Special Olympics Gymnastics a with a mission to ensure that competitive gymnastics is accessible and welcoming of people with an intellectual disability.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Awards which are a celebration of the achievements of sportspeople with disability as well as the coaches, organisations, officials and volunteers who support them.
“Whether you are an athlete, volunteer, official, coach, club, venue or program at the grass roots or Paralympian level, our awards showcase the outstanding contribution that both individuals and our community make, to empower Victorians with disability to get active and achieve their goals,” said Disability Sport & Recreation CEO, Richard Amon.
This night of nights for the disability sporting sector will be held on Wednesday 22 May 2019 and Gymnastics Victoria wishes good luck to Tamika and Jenny at the Awards.
