2019 Australian Gymnastics Championships – Rhythmic Gymnastics
The Australian Gymnastics Championships are taking place over two weeks from 20 May – 3 June. Over 1,500 athletes will compete in 6 different Gymsports over the two weeks of competition at Melbourne Arena. Top gymnasts from each state and territory will compete for the title of 2019 Australian Champion.
The 2019 Victorian State Team for Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) includes 34 athletes from 3 different Victorian clubs. Rhythmic Gymnasts will represent three of the top Rhythmic clubs in Victoria, including Prahran Rhythmic Gymnastics, Glen Iris Rhythmic Gymnastics and Ruyton Rhythmic Gymnastics.
The gymnasts will compete both individually and in groups with Rope, Freehand, Hoop, Ribbon, Clubs and Ball.
The Rhythmic Gymnastics competition will take place during the second week of the Australian Gymnastics Championships from 30 May – 3 June. Rhythmic Gymnasts from Level 10 National, Sub-Junior International, Pre-Junior International, Junior International and Senior International will compete over the 5 days of competition.
Premium sessions include the Senior International Sessions on Thursday 30 May, Friday 31 and Saturday 1 June at 6pm. The Pre-Junior session on the afternoon of Sunday 2 June will showcase the best up-and-coming Victorian Rhythmic Gymnasts.

Rhythmic athletes to watch
Miyabi competing at the 2018 Australian Gymnastics Championships
Victoria is fortunate to have many world-class Rhythmic Gymnasts representing the state at the Australian Gymnastics Championships. Senior International gymnasts Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva and Ashari Gill (both currently coached by Kateryna Logachova at Prahran Rhythmic Gymnastics) have been busy this year representing Australia at multiple FIG World Cup events, most recently in Sofia, Tashkent and Baku. Alexandra also represented Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games where she won two Bronze Medals (Team and Ball). Catch both of these athletes on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 May in the evening sessions.
Miyabi Akiya (currently coached by Kateryna Logachova at Prahran Rhythmic Gymnastics) is competing as a Pre-Junior Rhythmic Gymnast. She was recently named as the Pre-Junior All-Around Champion at the Senior Rhythmic Victorian Championships, winning Gold medals for Rope and Ball. At the 2018 Australian Gymnastics Championships, Miyabi won Gold on every apparatus and was crowned the Australia Sub-Junior Champion.
