Gymnastics Victoria are proud of having so many fantastic clubs across the State. We will be featuring Club of the Month profiles – you can nominate a Club to be featured by clicking here.

Highett Youth Club has been making extraordinary leaps and strides in the inclusion space, offering a range of participation opportunities for children with a disability both in-house and in community settings.

Highett Youth Club has achieved a significant amount over the last 6 months. They launched free monthly gymnastics sessions on a Sunday afternoon for children with ASD. These sessions have proved popular with over 15 children attending each month. The sessions are run by volunteer coaches and gymnasts who support children with autism to become more comfortable with the club environment and enjoy gymnastics activities for the first time!

The club also provided gymnastics activities at the Monash Children's Hospital as part of Disability Sport & Recreation's Hospital visit program, as well as providing activities to children from Specialist Schools at the Sandown All-Abilities Sport Day.

The team were also successful in securing a grant of $2,500 from Bayside City Council to train coaches to be better skilled to coach children with Autism.

Most recently, coaches from Highett Youth Club volunteered their time to run ‘come and try’ gymnastics at the Association for Children with a Disability (ACD) Dream Night at the Melbourne Zoo.

The club continues to prove that they are a leader in the inclusive gymnastics space. Well done to the team at Highett Youth Club!
