MAG Development Squad Testing Day

On Sunday 4 November the first Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Development Squad Testing Day was held at the State Gymnastics Centre in Prahran.

Over 70 MAG athletes from 20 different clubs across Victoria participated in the first testing day which was for ages ranging from Under 8 to Under 14.

In the morning session the athletes were tested on skills that were relevant for their age group on all six MAG apparatus. In the afternoon the athletes were tested on strength based activities measuring endurance, power and static strength.

There will be a second Development Squad Testing Day held this Sunday 11 November for all ages of Over 14s which will see athletes tested on basics and skills.

Athletes were invited to the MAG Development Squad Testing Days based on results at competitions throughout 2018. Development Squads will be formed for 2019 as an opportunity for athletes and coaches to attend camps and clinics across the year to enhance their gymnastics skills and knowledge.

MAG Head Coach Dion Pocklington was very happy with how the first MAG Development Squad Testing Day went on Sunday.

“It was fantastic to have such a large selection of athletes at our first Testing Day. There is a great amount of talent across Victoria which we are excited to help develop,” said Dion.

“By establishing our own Victorian Development Squads we are setting up a bright future for Victoria in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics.”

Well done to all athletes who tested last Sunday and good luck to those who will test this weekend.
