August Victorian Championships Wrap Up

The August Victorian Championships took place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 August at Geelong Arena. The event featured the Acrobatic Gymnastics Victorian Championships and State Pennant, the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Levels 7-10 Team Victorian Championships, the TeamGym Victorian Championships and the display gymnastics event FusionFX.

The weekend event commenced with the Acrobatic Gymnastics State Pennant featuring pairs, trios and quads from Levels 1, 2 and 3. There were some lovely creative performances during the session with Skylark Sports being named the State Pennant Champion Team.

The second session combined the Acrobatic Gymnastics Victorian Championships for Levels 3, 4 and 5 as well as the first section of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Level 7 Team competition. The quality of the Acrobatic Gymnastics was very impressive and our first selection of Level 7 teams set the standard very high.

The third session featured the second section of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Level 7 Team competition as well as the final Acrobatic Gymnastics competitors from Levels 6, 7 and 8. After a fantastic session of gymnastics, Skylark Sports were crowned the Acrobatic Gymnastics Championship Team and the Level 7 team from Waverley Gymnastics Centre were named the Victorian Champions.

The final session on Saturday featured Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Teams from Levels 8, 9 and 10. The quality of the Gymnastics was very high with some brilliant individual performances contributing to the team results. Congratulations to the Level 8 team from Grips Gymnastics Club and the Level 9 and 10 teams from MLC Gymnastics who were crowned Victorian Champions.

Sunday was a flurry of Gymnastics For All action with the day beginning with TeamGym and finishing with FusionFX.

The first session of the day featured eight Level 1 TeamGym teams competing across Floor, Mini Trampoline and Tumbling. Congratulations to the ‘Girls just want to have fun’ team from Energetic Gymnastics who were the Level 1 TeamGym Victorian Champions as well as the Team Spirit Award winners and to the all-male ‘Thunder’ team from Energetic Gymnastics who were named Level 1 Open TeamGym Victorian Champions.

Sunday’s second session featured four Level 2 Under 13 TeamGym teams, four Level 2 Open TeamGym teams and two Level 3 TeamGym teams. Well done to the ‘Glory’ team from Energetic Gymnastics who were named Level 2 Under 13 TeamGym Victorian Champions, the ‘Palmers Panthers’ from Palmers Gym Bendigo who were Level 2 Open TeamGym Victorian Champions and to ‘A Thousand Years’ from Energetic Gymnastics who were Level 3 TeamGym Victorian Champions. Also a special well done to Energetic Gymnastics’ ‘Believer’ team who won the Team Spirit Award.

The final event for the August Victorian Championships was FusionFX which combines acrobatics, gymnastics and dance in showcase performances. The calibre of the routines was top class with some great themes like the Greatest Showman, the Wizard of Oz, Ninja and Pirates of the Caribbean. FusionFX specialists Team Adrenalin were crowned champions in three of the four categories: in the Beginner category with Ease on Down the Road, the Intermediate (Large) category with Ome Kayo and the Advanced category with an awe-inspiring Greatest Showman routine. Advantage Gym Sports were named the Intermediate (Small) Champions with their Aerobics-inspired Pirates of the Caribbean number.

A huge well done to everyone who competed across the two-day event in Geelong and a big thank you to all of the judges, coaches, event staff and volunteers who made the event possible.
